Is DNA testing new?
DNA testing sounds very “science fiction.” The reality is that the testing to look at your own DNA from a simple cheek swab has been available for quite a few years. Unfortunately, almost all of the labs that perform this type of testing will hand you your results but no information about what the results actually MEAN to you!! That is changing.
What is a SNP?
A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) is a unique factor in your DNA. Our DNA produces proteins, many of which are enzymes. These enzymes are made up of sometimes hundreds of amino acids. Let’s say a large percentage of the population has DNA that makes the 6 amino acids “A,B,C,D,E,F” that combine to form a protein. What if you have the amino acids “A,B,C,D,E,M” instead. In many cases, this change in amino acids will affect the function of the protein. In the case of an enzyme, this may cause the enzyme to run sluggish. A sluggish enzyme, if left alone, may not produce enough of the end product our body needs.
We’ve ALL known about one popular SNP
All women of childbearing age are told to take a prenatal vitamin that contains at least 400 mcg of folic acid. That is because the enzyme Methylene Tetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) runs sluggish in a significant percentage of the population. This would lead to low production of the active form of folic acid called tetrahydrofolate (THF). Without enough THF, rapidly dividing cells such as those of a developing baby may have problems. The end result can be a neural tube birth defect such as spina bifida. Wonderfully, if we give these women with sluggish enzymes enough folic acid, the enzyme throws up it’s hands and says, “Ok!! Ok!! – I get the idea!!” and makes enough THF, protecting the baby from this type of birth defect.

We now have a company that can check a panel of these important SNPs, and, better yet, give you an idea of what supplements may help make sure these important enzymes run at the rate needed to optimize your health.
Will this change my DNA?
Let’s take that first car you bought when you were 16. Duct tape and super glue aside, the engine always ran sputtering with knocks and never seemed to have the pickup you needed when the light turned green. However, you found out that if you bought that fuel additive from the auto parts store and put it in your gas tank, the car ran great with no knocks and plenty of zip. Stop the additive a few months later and all the knocks and poor performance came back. NOTHING has changed with your engine. It is still the same vehicle that you bought—it just works better with the additive. It is no different with SNPs and the nutrients that drive them. Your DNA and SNPs do not change with the nutrients—they just work more efficiently.
Added Bonuses!!
Your LifeMap nutrition system has several important components. First, of course, is the personalized nutritional supplementation. Next is a patented form of a natural anti-inflammatory called cat’s claw. Given that inflammation is a major player in almost every chronic disease, anything that combines with lifestyle changes to lower inflammation has the potential to drastically impact our risk for chronic diseases. This patented form of cat’s claw has also shown in some small, initial human trials to protect DNA. Protecting DNA is obviously a desirable outcome! Finally this product has a remarkably high ability to protect against free radicals. Free radicals are little molecules that can do a large amount of damage to every part of our cells, leading to breakdown of the cell and subsequent chronic disease. The LifeMap nutrition system has an ability to protect against free radicals that may be the highest in the industry.
So how does it work?
It starts with a simple cotton swab to the inside of your cheek. This sample gets sent by you to the company and, in a few weeks, you get your personalized nutritional supplements. It’s that simple.
