About me!
Meet Shari!
Bio:
This is the official stuff…Continue reading below for the “fun stuff”
My name is Shari Lyon. I am a wellness coach and licensed massage therapist. I am passionate about my slogan of “live well, eat well, be well.” The only thing that makes me happier than living a natural health lifestyle is helping others make great changes in their lives so that they too can experience “wellness”!
I suppose that might require a bit of background on me. Through my teen years I suffered from depression and spent many years steadily increasing the quantity of medications I required to “help”. It wasn’t until after the birth of my third child and another dosage increase that I decided there had to be a better way, thus my journey began. My studies led me to a dear friend and teacher who introduced me to the world of natural health. Through her I learned that the substances we put into our bodies’ effect us much more than what we were taught in school, and that for some reason, our society doesn’t really want to face that truth. I made drastic changes in my diet, used herbs and other supplements, and tried to become a more positive person in general. I am so proud to say that still, to this day, I no longer require medication to live a happy, full life. Many other wonderful things came from these changes in our household. My husband, who was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in his early 20’s, doesn’t suffer the symptoms of it unless we get lazy in our eating habits. We were also able to clear up a skin condition that no doctor or specialist had been able to offer him help with. He has also had to make some dietary sacrifices and swears by our lifestyle even though it doesn’t mesh well with his carnivorous, milk loving ways. My children have never experienced an ear infection since we have changed the way we eat and live (7 years and counting..), and I can count on one hand the times they have been sick. And all three have brilliant minds (OK, i’m a mom, i’m allowed to gloat). They sometimes wish they had been born into another family but when it comes right down to it, they too support the way we eat and live. They enjoy feeling great, rarely being sick, and feel genuinely bad for their friends at school when they see what they bring for lunch in their lunch boxes.
I have completed many, many hours of natural health education. I have earned a BS in holistic nutrition and am currently working on my MS in holistic nutrition through Clayton College of Natural Health. I have over 600 hours of massage training and am a licensed massage therapist. I have trained in live and dried blood analysis, EFT, Chinese cupping, reflexology, and aromatherapy. I have also completed the requirements as a certified natural health consultant.
One of my passions in life is the body’s ability to heal itself. I love being a permanent student of the body and how to live a long, healthy, happy life. The only thing I love more than learning about the body is TEACHING and sharing with others what I have learned. I strongly believe that healthy living is a constant work-in-progress, our life’s journey. I love working with clients because it also helps me remember to do the things I know I should. Every time I help a client feel better, I learn something more about helping me feel better too! There are definitely times when I throw caution to the wind and pig out on a huge plate of Mexican food (but I of course take my enzymes first..) I have good days and not so good days. I am human and my goal in this life is to keep a “moderation in all things”. I love my life and passionately believe I have the best job in the world!
Philosophy:
- Living well not only requires eating good foods, but also working on your relationships, emotions, fitness, and spirituality.
- You won’t go straight to heaven if you are always 100% in your natural life, and if you occasionally indulge yourself you won’t be banished to hell.
- What works today for you won’t necessarily work tomorrow. It’s important to be flexible and continue to grow and learn.
- We are living this life to find pleasure; this has to be a daily goal.
- You are the king (or queen) of you! My children get tired of hearing this, but we have to remind us that we are not victims of anything in this life. Others can try to support or sabotage us but ultimately we are in charge of our outcomes and successes.
- Your eating habits have been yours for a very long time, allow yourself at least that much time to reach your goals of a better life.
Fun facts:
Since I get to know your deep dark secrets and bad habits… I thought it was only fair that you should be able to know some of mine…
- I was a nail tech in another life and had the (nerve wracking) privilege of doing Lauren Holly’s French manicure for the movie filming of Dumb and Dumber. You can check out my fine work when she is trying to pull Jeff Daniels tongue off the frozen pole in the movie.
- I used to dabble in modeling and was a featured extra for a couple of TV shows. I was also an extra for one of the Halloween movies but I can’t remember if it was Halloween 45 or 62.
- I am married to the most perfect man in the world, he is so patient and supportive of my natural health addiction, and even cuts out red meats for me most of the time, even though that is one of his greatest loves.
- I love to do Pilates, yoga, and weight lifting but am terrible at making fitness a priority in my life.
- I have belly danced since high school and was once offered a job at a authentic Greek restaurant because I was showing off with a group of my friends.
- I have the 3 most perfect children in the world!
- I was born in Utah but lived in Arizona since I was 5 years old.
- I absolutely love 80’s music! Especially dancing to it.
- I turned vegetarian around age 12, not for any moral reasons, but mostly because I hated the fish, elk, deer, pigeons, wild turkey, rabbit, quail and whatever else my hunter father brought home and served at the table.
- I am a master over achiever! I can over commit myself faster than the roadrunner chasing the Wiley coyote. Part of the fun of this is getting to make many lists and organizing my days.
- I was very much a princess as a child until I participated in a 52 day wilderness survival hike and realized the joy in never wearing make-up, showering or changing my clothes.
- My parents are the best people in the world and I owe everything I am today to them. (Hey, they paid me good money to add this statement)
