Stand with me under my umbrella.
Are you inclusive or tolerant?
I see a large chasm between these words. Inclusion means accepting, welcoming, and loving, people from different walks of life. Tolerance, on the other hand, does not denote acceptance, but rather an attitude of being faced with something you must go along with, but in your heart, you don’t accept.
It’s the difference between inviting someone to seek shelter from the storm WITH you under your umbrella rather than merely handing them an umbrella to use. If you were in the middle of a deluge, wouldn’t you feel safer, more loved, and truly included if you were invited under the umbrella with others? Why do we hand some their own umbrellas thinking we have done all that we can to help them? They are, after all, still protected from the downpours in life. I believe that Christ would have done better. I believe we can do better.
Ask yourself, “How can I be more inclusive with all of God’s children?”
